Most Desirable Postcode for Young Professional Homebuyers

Date Added 07/07/2016

The area that is the most desirable for young British professionals to buy a home in has been identified as Hove on the South Coast, specifically the postcode BN3. It is also the second year running that this particular postcode has topped the table in the research by Lloyds Bank to find the most coveted area for young professionals between the ages of twenty-five and forty-four seeking to a buy a home.

Along with its neighbour, Brighton, which has the seventh most coveted area for the same demographic in its postcode area of BN3, Hove has dominated the popularity poll again due to a diverse range of amenities as well as its excellent location.

Why Brighton and Hove is so Popular

The areas of Brighton and Hove on England`s South Eastern coast are popular among young professionals due in part to the closeness to London, with the capital approximately an hour and ten minutes` train ride away. The areas themselves feature diverse populations as well as a large array of entertainment based amenities such as theatres, music venues and shops as well as a large range of trendy bars and quality restaurants.

Of course, there is also the close vicinity to the beach which also helps, with Brighton also seeing a large number and wide variety of festivals occurring throughout the year.

London Still the Most Desirable Overall

While Hove tops Lloyds Bank`s charts for individual postcodes, London still comes out on top overall as sixteen of the top twenty postcode areas are found in the capital. The most popular region within London is the South West, with ten of those sixteen places found there, including places such as Balham, Battersea, Clapham and the home of grass court tennis, Wimbledon.

Having declared Hove the most popular place for the second year in a row, the Mortgage Director of Lloyds Bank, Mike Songer, was keen to enthuse about the reasons why such as an area as Hove as well as the London suburbs are so popular. Mr Songer said, `Young professionals tend to have a professional or University qualification, are in well paid jobs and enjoy an urban lifestyle without the hustle and bustle of living in the city centre. Our research shows that aspiring young urbanites choose to settle in areas which give them the best of both worlds, attractive suburbs offering good amenities and quality of life, which are within easy reach of a larger city centre and in many cases they are prepared to pay a premium to live there. With a third of London`s population in the twenty-five to forty-four age group, it is not surprising many of the most popular areas with this group are in the capital.`

What also adds to the popularity of places like Brighton and Hove and those areas in South West London is the popularity itself. The more like-minded people move to a place, the more it caters for that kind of demographic, thus attracting even more folks of that ilk. So if you`re a young professional looking for the ideal place to live but the capital is a bit beyond your means, it may be worth your while to gaze a little further south to the coast to see if there`s something there that ticks all your boxes.
